The City of Pismo Beach, located on the Pacific Ocean in San Obispo
County, was founded in 1891 and incorporated in 1946. It is
located mid-way between Los Angeles and San Francisco, with about a 3.5
hour drive from San Jose. With a population of 8600, Pismo Beach
is a recreation and tourism-oriented town. The best time of the
year to visit Pismo Beach is during the winter months. In

The Beach: Pismo Beach is known as the "Clam Capital of the
World." It has 23 miles of sandy beaches including Pismo Beach
State Park, dramatic rugged coastlines, and the 1,200 foot Pismo
Beach Pier lined with fishing enthusiasts. Pismo Beach has
some excellent surf, which is enjoyed by both surfers and swimmers alike
and is seen by thousands of guests each weekend. Many hotels,
restaurants and shops line the beachfront for beachgoers to enjoy.
Businesses stay open late in the summertime to accommodate the increase
in travelers and locals alike.
Tour of Hearst Castle: Once belonging to William
Randolph Hearst, today it's a State Historical Monument.
While visiting the Castle, be sure to include the National Geographic
Theater Hearst Castle, for a showing of the film "Hearst
Castle--Building the Dream." This movie is shown on a
five-story screen with seven-channel surround sound and breathtaking
aerial scenery.
Monarch Butterfly Grove:
The Monarch Butterflies return annually to this grove in Pismo Beach
State Park in November and stay through February.
Xtreme Hummer Adventures: For the young at heart, experience
firsthand the terrain of the dunes at Pismo Beach through a daring ride
over the dunes in a hummer.
